We love living in Downtown Dayton!

The move from the suburbs back to the city has been wonderful. There are so many things to do and Downtown Dayton is very much a COMMUNITY. All images are protected by US Copyright. Please contact me if you have any questions.

Late in 2000, John and I start exploring the idea of moving Downtown. We were excited by the renovation and, as many of you know, we like to spend time Downtown. Early in 2001, we found the perfect opportunity....The Firefly Building. We selected the Firefly Building because it had outdoor space (roof access and decks), location, and the ability to design the space that WE wanted. Here are some pictures taken from the roof.

Although it took us 10 months to sell our house, we were ready to start construction March 2002. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, 3 days before we were to close on the construction loan, our builder told us he was going out of business. Now, almost a month later, we have selected a new builder and are poised to close on the construction loan and actually begin construction.  We are temporarily living in our condo in Fairborn that until January had been a rental property. In the timing is everything category, we have now sold that property as well and need to be out of the condo by July 31st...so we hope that we have something to move into...or we may be living on the streets of Dayton.

At the request of many of our friends, I will use this page to chronicle the next few months so that all of our friends near and far can follow our progress.

January 2005

It is hard to believe that we have been here 3-1/2 years. Here are some of the more recent photo of our home including some sunset photos taken from our roof (2004) and not these pictures have not been altered in any way. The sunsets are just better Downtown!

Continuing Developments

Finally put blinds in the bedrooms and master bath...those lights from Fifth-Third Field are killer and on almost all night.

We added carpet in the main living space and the master bedroom.

We finally settled on putting a hardwood floor in the kitchen.

August 2002

The kitchen and deck went in a week before our house-warming party!!!! Although we still haven't decided on a kichen floor. Here is a picture from our deck.

July 2002

Looks like we'll be ready to move in late this month!!! Although we probably won't have a kitchen installed by then.

June 2002

We have made great progress. We have drywall and primer on the walls. Just haven't had a chance to get the photos developed....

April/May 2002

We selected a new builder - Temple Homes and closed on the construction loan on April 15.  Construction has progressed nicely and we seem to be on target for a July move-in. The ceiling and posts have been painted white, framing is mostly complete, rough plumbing and electrical are in.  With any luck, drywall will go up on June 10.

March 2002

Urban living in an industrial building. The porches leading to the front door of each unit support the wings of the firefly! We will be living on the 2nd floor. There are 3 residential units in the building and the rest is commercial office space and an art gallery. Come join us for a gallery opening. Here is a look at what we started with!
