Organizations, members, and teams

Share repositories and permissions with a workspace organization.

Create an organization

Open organization settings or choose New organization. Give the organization a clear name and invite the people who need access. Keep personal repositories personal unless the work needs shared ownership or team permissions.

Manage members

Organization administrators can review members, invitations, and roles. Remove access when a person no longer needs it; do not rely on repository visibility alone to revoke organization membership.

Use teams for repository access

Teams group members and make repository access easier to reason about. Grant the narrowest role that supports the work, then verify the effective repository access from the repository or team view.

Repository ownership

An organization repository belongs to the organization rather than to the individual who created it. Repository settings and organization policies can restrict who may create, edit, transfer, or delete repositories.

Invitations

Review pending invitations from the organization and repository invitation inboxes. Accept an invitation only when you recognize the organization, repository, and role it grants.
